Raymond Lee Wright

Raymond Lee Wright, age 86 was called to glory on May 13th, 2021 surrounded by loved ones in his Newark, California home. Raymond grew up in Fresno, California and was the youngest of eleven siblings. Raymond joined the Navy and served on the Pacific Coast during the Korean War and honorably discharged August 25,1960. While serving, Raymond met and married the love of his life Elaine Wynkoop in December of 1955 and was happily married 53 years until her passing in 2008.

In life Raymond was a dedicated, hard-working man, who always put family first. A true gentleman. Friends and family members would all agree that Raymond was funny and of quick wit. He had a way of seeing everyone's most positive qualities. Raymond was a man of great compassion and would never turn down anyone in need. He called it his greatest weakness.

To his closest family Raymond was called Papa. It is a loving title he carried with pride. Papa was a rock, our foundation. Papa was the fabric of life and fully involved. He coached his great granddaughter on her softball swing. “Go hit me a double!” he would tell her. Papa loved sports. He loved the San Francisco Giants, the Golden State Warriors and the 49ers (where he currently has a brick dedicated to him in the new stadium.)

Raymond leaves three daughters: Karen Wright, Sharon Stennet, Christine Wright, Grandchildren: Darrin Torgerson, Brian Torgerson and Shawn Torgerson, Roy Daniel, Caressa Daniel, Christopher Stennet, Michael Stennet and Nicholas Stennet and many great-grandchildren.

Papa touched so many people with his kindness and his zest for life. He is and will always be missed. With love and grace Raymond joins his beautiful bride, Elaine, in Glory.

There will be a closed service and military honors at Holy Sepulchre, Hayward on Wednesday, June 9, 2021.
