Norma Dean Salazar

Norma passed peacefully in her sleep at the age of 91, where she wanted to end her days, the comfort of her home.

Born in Arkansas to Thomas and Dolly Vickers. As a young girl her family moved to Colorado before settling in California. First living in Russell City, then Hayward. It was in Russell City where she met her future husband, Agustine Salazar, and married November 5, 1950.

After her mother passed in 1945, she quit before finishing the 10th grade at the old Hayward High School to work in the local fields so she could help support the family. Then with help from her father and a family friend, she got work in one of the local cookie factories. Always someone with high work ethics, her resumè includes working at a Motherhood of Maternity store, eventually advancing to the position of area supervisor responsible for up to 11 stores. She also worked at two of the local Sears stores in the sewing machine and vacuum department where she excelled in sales and was recognized for her performance and customer service, finally retiring at the age of 60. Without skipping a beat in her retirement she managed to keep busy volunteering at the local elementary school, helping young students with their school work. She also helped out at church with Children’s Vacation Bible School (VBS).

Preceded in death by her husband Agustine, her parents, her brothers Louis, Paul, Harold and her sisters Norean, Eugenia, Angelina, Lily Mae, and Geraldine.

She is survived by her sons Bruce and Brad and daughter Sandra, 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A service will be held at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Funeral Center, 1051 Harder Rd, Hayward, California, on October 30, 2021 at 11 AM followed by a procession to Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward.
