Ida R. Silva

Ida R. Silva was born in Koloa, Kauai, Hawaii in May 1925, the last of four children born to immigrants from Puerto Rico. She passed peacefully in her sleep from natural causes, at the age of 97, in Sacramento, California, at Melinda's Care Home on January 2, 2023. Ida finished the 8th grade in June 1939. In 1942 she married Ernest G. Silva in Waimea, Kauai, Hawaii. They had three children by the time she turned 20. In 1956, they moved to Hayward, California. After Ernest passed in 2006, she moved to Sacramento to be near her granddaughter, Tamogene. Ida is preceded in death by her husband Ernie and her son Wayne (2012). She is survived by her son James P. Silva of Fremont, daughter Gregoria "Jane" Silva of Honolulu, Hawaii; four Grandchildren: Tamogene Silva, Sean Silva, Jim Silva, and Gena O'Brien; Eight Great Grandchildren: Michael Silva, Tyler Malone, Marisa and Alejandro Flores, Justin and April Silva, Benjamin and Theodore O'Brien: Three Great-Great Grandchildren: Michael, Caleb and Jazmine Silva. Ida's early life was not easy. She grew up without her mom, was six when her grandmother died. She learned to be feisty and strong. When her children were little , she sang in an operatic style soprano while doing dishes. Besides being a homemaker, she was a meticulous seamstress and loved to crochet. She was a big fan of news and world history. She kept informed on personal health and medicine, eagerly sharing her knowledge with family. She was keen to learn her family lineage. She enjoyed cooking a large pot of gandure rice to share with family and friends. Ida was kind-hearted and very loved and respected by her family and friends and will be missed. Ida's Services will be held on: Tuesday, January 24th. Visitation Services in St. Raphael Chapel from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery & Funeral Center 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA.
