Georgia Lee Deterra passed away on February 9, 2022, at the age of 94 at her home in Dublin, CA. Georgia was born on March 13th, 1927, in Elkmont, TN in the Smokey Mountains. She was the second youngest of 12 siblings. The family relocated to CA when Georgia was 18 and she attended Hayward High School.
In 1947 she entered the Miss Hayward Airport Beauty Contest and won a helicopter flight and flying lessons. On November 5, 1947, she married Joseph Deterra and had three children; Karen, Linda, and Joseph Jr., four grandchildren; Carey, Joseph, Jennifer, and Shannon, and four great-grandchildren; Alexia, Amanda, Joseph and Stella.
Georgia worked much of her life even while raising a family. She served as an Officer on the BOD for Woodman of The World Insurance. She was also very active with the sorority Beta Sigma Phi, a woman’s friendship network to provide educational programs and opportunities for service to others.
She is survived by her daughter Linda Jones, grandchildren Jennifer Brumbeloe, Shannon Ramirez, and Joseph Deterra, all the great-grandchildren and a dear cousin, Louise Fowler, who was raised with Georgia back in TN. Services will be held at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery at 1000 February 28, 2022. Please make any memorial donations to your favorite charity.
