Paquito Abad Sarmiento passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all the countless lives he brightened with his kindness and care.
Paquito was born in Iba, Zambales, in the Philippines and graduated from Zambales High School. He earned a degree in Accounting from University of the East and after graduation worked for the National Broadcasting Corporation of the Philippines as well as running his own private accounting practice. Afterwards, he worked for Ramon Roces Incorporated before moving to America in 1972. In America he began working for Sumitomo Bank, rising to the rank of Vice-President of Corporate Services before retiring in 2002.

In his retirement he devoted his time to volunteering at St. Patrick’s Church in Rodeo, pouring his energies into working in the CCD program, faith formation council, vacation bible camp, and haunted house, in addition to serving as a member of the parish counsel for two terms. In his spare time he loved to work in his garden and was also an enthusiastic reader.

Paquito is survived by his loving wife, Williportes; devoted son, Michael of Sunnyvale and daughter-in-law, Nam-Phuong and grandchildren, Luc and Khai. He is also survived by his sisters, Norma of Zambales, PI and Imelda (Nene) of Salinas.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 4-8 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery & Funeral Center at 2540 Church Ln, San Pablo, CA 94806 and a funeral service on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church at 825 Seventh Street, Rodeo, CA 94572. Burial to follow at St. Dominic Cemetery at E. 5th Street & Hillcrest Avenue, Benicia, CA 94510.
