Barbara Mazzoni Ginley

Barbara Mazzoni Ginley passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, with her son, daughter-in-law, and her two granddaughters at her bedside. Born March 26,1935, in San Francisco, California, she is preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma (Devincenzi) Mazzoni of San Francisco, California, and her late husband of 33 years, Thomas “Tom” O’Hagan Ginley of Alameda, California, who died in 1993.

After graduating St. Brigid Catholic School in San Francisco, Barbara moved to Honolulu, Hawaii where she lived for one year. Hawaii remained a favorite vacation spot for Barbara throughout her life. After returning home, she met her husband and love of her life, Tom. They were married in 1961 and moved to Alameda in 1963, where she lived for more than 55 years and raised her family. In 2019, Barbara moved into a memory care facility in Moraga, California, to be closer to her family in her final years.

Barbara worked at PG&E for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986. She collected antique figurines, dolls and Italian ceramics and her favorite pastime was shopping. Above all, she loved her family, especially her two granddaughters. She enjoyed traveling and visited more than 30 countries in her later years. Barbara’s best memories were family trips to Italy, Ireland, Germany, Scotland, and New York City with her son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters.

Barbara loved to make people laugh. From her high school graduation prank to her final days in memory care, she will be remembered as someone who was always willing to do or say anything (often a little irreverent or off-color) to make someone laugh and smile.

Barbara is survived by her son, Richard “Rick” Ginley and his wife Janice Mulvenon Ginley of Moraga, California, her granddaughters, Katherine “Kate” Ginley of Los Angeles, California and Meghan Ginley Arthurs and her husband Brent Arthurs of Moraga, California, her step-daughter Sharon “Sherri” Maloff of Carlsbad, California, her sister, Mabel Mazzoni Schenone, of Alameda, California, nearly two dozen nephews and nieces, and so many loving friends who she always referred to as family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Barbara on Thursday April 28, 2022 beginning with Remarks of Remembrance by her son Rick at 10:15am at St. Monica Catholic Church, Moraga, CA at 1001 Camino Pablo, Moraga CA. Please arrive to the Church by 10:00am. A reception celebrating the life of Barbara will immediately follow at La Finestra Ristorante, 1419 Moraga Way, Moraga, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Barbara’s favorite charities: St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, The American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society.
