CECILIA L. CIRIACO

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our most beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

Cecilia Lagran Ciriaco was born on mid-Sunday morning, November 22, 1936 in Mataas Na Bayan, Mogpog, Marinduque to her mother, Romana Minerva Vitanzo, and father, Artemio Jose Lagran. The beloved granddaughter of Don Fernando Jose Lagran and Doña Simeona Malilay and the eldest of eight siblings, Cecilia took great responsibility and quiet pride in generously caring for her family and loved ones, both at home in the Philippines and across the diaspora.

An active and accomplished student, Cecilia graduated cum laude in 1957 from Santa Isabel College in Manila where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Science in Education. After graduating from college, Cecilia became a school teacher. Through her work as a teacher, Cecilia enriched the lives of many students and colleagues with her intelligence, charm, and piety. Through this work, Cecilia carried on a family legacy of dedication to education and sowing a love of learning for all.

On May 10, 1960, Cecilia and her darling Angelito Yglesia Ciriaco, Jr. began their married life together. Over almost 65 years of marriage, Cecilia and Angelito would give birth to four amazing children, support raising their three grandchildren, and enthusiastically welcome three great-grandchildren into this world. In 1971, Angelito and Cecilia, along with their four children, emigrated from the Philippines to the United States; an incredibly courageous lifelong journey and sacrifice, to leave their motherland and family to travel to a new country, make a new beginning, and clear a path of opportunity for their descendents.

Cecilia is deeply mourned and affectionately remembered by her beloved husband Angelito, sister Maria Carmen Perpetua, children Hermenegildo ‘Gil’ Jose, Maria ‘Jing’ Hermila, Maria ’Joy’ Hermina, Maria ‘Liza’ Herdeliza, grandchildren Jonah Katelin (Andrew), Jacob Angelito (Jessica), Ciara Cecilia (Craig), and great-grandchildren Bud Angelito, Silas Arlo, and Henry Joseph.

In her long and fruitful 88 years of life, Cecilia accomplished great things and brought kinship, comfort, and laughter to all the many lives she touched. Cecilia Lagran Ciriaco was unwaveringly devoted to her faith, the Catholic Church, her family, and her many friends and loved ones. May she be at peace in eternal rest, in the loving care of those who have gone before us and her benevolent God.

Viewing will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 2601 San Ramon Valley Blvd, San Ramon, CA 94583, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, from 10:00AM -10:45AM. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00AM.

Committal is scheduled from 1:30PM - 2:00PM at The Cathedral of Christ the Light Mausoleum - St. James section, 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland, CA 94612.
