Charles Henry Caison

Charles "Chuck" Henry Caison May 26, 1934 – August 22, 2024

Charles "Chuck" Henry Caison, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at his home in San Leandro, surrounded by his children Kit, Kim, and Debbie as well as his longtime caregivers and friends, Mary and Maria. He was 90 years old.

Born in Laurinburg, North Carolina, on May 26, 1934, Chuck was the son of Henry "Kit" Kitchen Caison and Gladys Phipps Caison. He was a beloved brother to Cecil, Illa Pearl, Patricia, and Harold.

Chuck proudly served in the United States Air Force. While stationed in California he met Lorraine Castanho Caison while attending a dance in Rio Vista. Lorraine, thinking he was tall and handsome, decided to give him a chance. After 6 months of dating, they were married on August 18th, 1957. What followed was a devoted marriage lasting 66 years, until her passing March 27th, 2023. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Chuck enjoyed a successful career at what is now ConocoPhillips until his retirement in 1994.

He is survived by his daughter Kimberly Caison, son Christopher "Kit" Caison, and daughter-in-law Debra. He is also survived by his grandchildren Monica, Charles "Charlie", April, Kyle, Jordan, Amanda, and six great-grandchildren.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Chuck was an avid follower of the Oakland A's, Golden State Warriors, Carolina Panthers, and North Carolina Tarheels. He played basketball and baseball throughout his life, coached his children’s sports teams, and was a regular at his grandchildren’s sporting events. His daily routine included early morning swims at the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro, breakfast at Pelton Cafe, and coffee at McDonald's with his group of friends.

Chuck also had a deep love for country music, enjoying Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, and George Jones. His passion for cars was also evident, over the years collecting quite a bit of automobilia, a passion he passed down to his son Kit and grandson Charlie.

Though Chuck was known for his stoic demeanor, preferring to sit back and observe, his love for his family was unwavering and deeply felt. His dry humor, sly smile, and quick wit will be greatly missed during family gatherings.

Donations in his memory can be made to St. Anthony Foundation, San Francisco, CA

A memorial service will be held for Charles on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 10:00AM to 11:30AM at Holy Sepulchre – St. Michael Chapel, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA  94542.  Rite of Committal to immediately follow.
