Dely Pascual-Gapasin

Dely Pascual-Gapasin passed away unexpectedly on August 15, 2022, following an unforeseen brain aneurysm. She was 81 years young. She was born on December 20, 1940, to Cristina and Alejo Pascual in Davao City, Philippines. Dely lived a full, loving, family-filled upbringing as the third born of ten children. She graduated magna cum laude, with an agriculture degree at the University of Southern Mindanao, the Philippines in 1961. She attained her Master Science degree in Entomology from the University of Hawaii in 1965 and subsequently obtained her Ph.D. degree in Entomology from Pennsylvania State University in 1972. She was a well-respected University Professor, both in the Philippines and the United States. In 1980, Dely moved to Los Banos, Philippines, the center of agricultural education and research in the country, as Director for Crops Research of the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD). In 1989, Dely sailed into global research by becoming a Senior Fellow at the International Service for National Agricultural Research (ISNAR) in The Hague in the Netherlands. In 1993, she joined the World Bank as an Agriculturist, as Task Team Leader of Bank-supported projects in Indonesia. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dony, her parents Cristina and Alejo Pascual; sister Gloria and brother Sadiri. She is survived by her daughter, Rewa Kristina, son Peter John and daughter-in-law Lucrecia; grandsons Nicolas and Jason; granddaughter Oriana; four sisters and three brothers with their respective families; nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. A visitation and Rosary Prayer will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery and Funeral Center located at 1965 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 5:00 pm. A funeral mass is scheduled on September 14, 2022, at 10:00 am at the same place with the burial ceremony to immediately follow. Due to Covid 19, the family requests that those who will be in attendance wear masks and practice social distancing.
