Diego Edgar Barrantes

Resident of Alameda

Edgar Barrantes passed away peacefully with his children and grandchildren at his side.

Edgar grew up in Cajamarca, Peru. As a young adult, he moved to Lima, Peru where he met and married his future wife Yolanda. They migrated to California in 1956 and fulfilled their dream of raising a family. Edgar worked for National Cash Register (NCR) in Accounting/Inventory Management for 25 years. He was well- respected for his strong work ethic and dedication to the company. “Eddie”, as he was lovingly called, was a caring friend you could easily talk to and count on.

Edgar and Yolanda made many wonderful friends throughout their married life and they considered them family. Spending time with family was one of their greatest joys. They loved sharing a meal, a glass of wine (or pisco sour), and a little something sweet (algo dulcecito) with family/friends. Several times they were able to travel back to Peru visiting their large, loving Peruvian and Italian families there, and instilling a deep sense of family and cultural connection in their children and grandchildren. Throughout the years, they also enjoyed trips to Spain, Germany, Mexico, Hawaii, and various places throughout California and the US. Edgar especially loved the outdoors and took his family on many hiking trips to Yosemite. On those rigorous hikes, he always encouraged his children to keep moving forward and never give up. However, he also included a helping hand when needed. Edgar truly adored his grandchildren and often attended their various celebrations, sporting events, and recitals. He was a strong, consistent, kind and loving presence in their lives.

Edgar was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years Yolanda and is survived by his children Julie Apel(Michael),

Jackie Myovich(John) and Flavio Barrantes(Elizabeth); and grandchildren Christina, Erika, and Mark Apel, Daniela (Chase) and Andrea (Nick) Myovich, and Luisa and Luca Barrantes. He also leaves behind his dear brother Jorge and sisters Socorro and Cecilia; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Basilica, 1109 Chestnut St., Alameda on Tuesday, Dec. 12th at 10:30am. Interment following at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, CA. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Saint Joseph Notre Dame High School or St. Joseph Elementary School.
