Edmond (Ed) Cirio

Edmond (Ed) Cirio passed away on October 31, 2023. He was born in Richmond, California to Americo Cirio Sr and Rose (Colangelo) on January 2nd, 1934. He worked for Caltrans as an Engineer for over 40 years, retiring in 1995. He loved cars, dancing, and his many “kids”. He started West Coast Swing dancing in 1970 and began teaching in 1973 at various locations. In February 1978 Ed and Phil Trau started the Top Of Beardsley’s in Burlingame. In 1980 they moved to the Peninsula Italian American Social Club in San Mateo and Ed taught every Wednesday evening for 29 years. In their years of instruction, they have taught thousands of people how to dance Swing. Ed lobbied and won to make the West Coast Swing the official California State Dance in January 1989. Ed was inducted into the National Swing Dance Hall of Fame in 1994. He was one of the original Member’s and Chief Judge of the Mountain Magic Dance Convention in South Lake Tahoe. Preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers (Everett and Americo Jr “Rico”) and two sisters (Dorothy “Dottie” and Ida). Surviving Ed are his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved as much as if they were his own. Ed’s passing will without a doubt leave an empty space within us all. You are loved by many, Uncle.

A memorial service to be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in San Pablo, CA in the St. Michael Chapel on 01/12/2024 at 10 A.M. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Stroke Association.
