Elaine Bettcher, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 22, 2024, just shy of her 98th birthday. Born on June 29, 1926, in Berkeley, California, Elaine was the cherished daughter of Harry Blank and Margaret Horman. She married Harold (Buddy) Bettcher who was on leave from the South Pacific during world war II in 1943. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication to her family.
Elaine loved to make and sell crafts, garden, play cards and bingo, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. She raised her family in Hayward, California, where she worked for United Can Company as a seamstress for over 30 years. When she and her husband retired in the mid-eighties, they moved to Meadow Vista, California in 1984, where she lived until 2017. Afterward, she moved to Baywood Court in Castro Valley, California.
Elaine is survived by her son Stephen Bettcher and wife Susan and her daughter Christine Alameda and Husband Jerry, who were her pride and joy. She leaves behind her grandchildren Kurt Alameda and his wife Leigh Ann and Jeri Marie Ackerman and her husband Rick, and her great-grandchildren Rickey Ackerman and his wife Megan, Marissa Ackerman, and her partner Michael, Kaleigh Alameda, and Kyle King. Elaine also had the joy of seeing her family grow even further with her great-great-grandchildren, Madelyn and Emily Ackerman.
A Vigil will be held at Sorensen's Chapel on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 6 PM, located at 1140 B St, Hayward, CA. A Funeral Mass will follow at Our Lady of Grace Church, 3433 Somerset Ave, Castro Valley, CA, on Wednesday, July 10th at 11 AM. Elaine will be buried in Auburn alongside her husband, Harold (Buddy) Bettcher, on Thursday, July 11th.
Elaine's legacy is one of love and family. Her warmth and wisdom will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity of choice in Elaine's name.
