Ildefonso “Ceto” Hidalgo Mondina

Ildefonso Hidalgo Mondina of Hayward California died at his home of natural causes on December 19, 2023. He was 92 years old.

 

Born in San Fernando, La Union, Philippines, on September 24, 1931 to Francisco and Barbara.  He was fondly known as Ceto. He was the youngest of seven children. He grew up in Barrio Lingsat, San Fernando, La Union, Philippines. He met a beautiful woman from the same barrio; her name was Maria Cariño Pascua. The two were married on June 4, 1958, and were blessed with three daughters and four sons. For nearly five decades, Ildefonso worked and labored as a fisherman, his means of livelihood. He also worked as a carpenter on as-needed basis. He was a very hardworking, kind, patient, and dedicated husband and father. He loved to sing and dance. He loved to eat Ilocano dishes especially dinengdeng. He always gives good and compassionate advice to family and friends. One of his favorite sayings was: “Agannad ka ta isalakan ka. That’s what God said.”

 

He was preceded in death by his daughter Merlita; his parents, Francisco and Barbara; and his siblings: Maximo, Pia, Alejandrino , Angelino, Federico, and Josefina.

 

Ildefonso is survived by his wife, Maria; his six children: Edward and daughter-in-law Helen, Elma and son-in-law Andy, Joseph and daughter-in-law Marilou, Geraldine, Ildefonso Jr. and daughter-in-law Estrelita, and Edgar and daughter-in-law Joann. Ildefonso has 13 grandchildren: Edwardine, Stephanie, Lorraine, Kimberly, Drexel, Jason, Kahra, Jomar, John Maiko, Princess Maicah, Bryan, John Kenneth, and Eliazar.  Ildefonso has three lovely great-grandchildren: nine year-old Czar, 3 year-old A’Leah, and 1 year old Aria Faye.

 

Rosary and Vigil services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA 94542. Funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 11:00 am at Saint Clement Church, 750 Calhoun Street, Hayward, CA 94544. Final resting place of Ildefonso will be in Holy Garden, Memorial Park, San Fernando, La Union, Philippines.
