James Joseph O'Reilly, 96, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025, in Fremont, California. A devoted father, grandfather, and man of unwavering faith, James lived a life marked by kindness, humor, and service to others., Born on March 29, 1929, in Derry Sheridan, County Meath, Ireland, James carried with him the values of hard work and deep faith throughout his life. In 1977, he founded his own electronics representative business, which he operated for nearly 40 years—a venture that reflected both his entrepreneurial spirit and his dedication to providing for his family while still being able to be present. His tireless work ethic was a testament to the love he held for those closest to him., James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann O'Reilly. Together, they built a life centered around family and faith. He is survived by his son James O'Reilly, Maria, daughters Torie, Patrick, Katie, Dave, Bridget, and Bernadette, Bon. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Joey, Gabby, Kayla, Izzy, Elena, and Emma., A devout Catholic throughout his life, James placed God at the center of everything he did. He raised his children in the Catholic faith and instilled in them a deep trust in God’s guidance. For 25 years, he faithfully opened St. Michael’s Church each morning and led the rosary before daily Mass. Alongside Mary Ann, he volunteered for many years at St. Anthony’s Dining Room in Oakland every weekend—quietly living out his belief in acts of service., In his youth, James traveled around the world, living in Ireland, England, Australia, and Canada, prior to settling in the United States. In his final year, James spoke fondly of living in Melbourne, where he first picked up golf. James found great joy on the golf course and continued walking it several days a week well into his early 90s. His love for the game was matched only by his love for family and community. Known for his kind heart and quick wit, James never met a stranger. His warmth drew people to him effortlessly; friends and family alike were touched by his generosity of spirit. Even during his final year in memory care, James retained the gentle humor and graciousness that defined him throughout life. His presence brought light to those around him until the very end. A celebration of James’ life will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at St. Michael's Catholic Church at 458 Maple Street in Livermore. Viewing and Rosary will begin at 10:30 AM, followed by the funeral mass at 11:30 AM. A reception will be held afterward at Beeb’s Sports Bar and Grill at Las Positas Golf Course.
