John “Jack” Edward Miles

John “Jack” Edward Miles of San Leandro, CA passed away at the age of 88 on March 7, 2020.  Jack was born in Portland Oregon and was the second of ten children born to Edward Obray Miles and Louisa Barber Davenport on May 25, 1931.  He grew up in Tigard Oregon and graduated from Puyallup High School in the state of Washington.

Jack joined the U.S. Navy in November of 1950 and proudly served 4 years as an Aircraft Mechanic and Flight Engineer on the Mars seaplane.  While serving in the Navy he met the Love of his life Julia Ann Miles of Tigard Oregon and married in 1953. During their loving marriage of 50 years, they raised four children, Bill Miles, Dale Miles, Cari Craig and Patti Williams. Following his Navy service, Jack worked for the Naval Air Rework Facility in Alameda as an Aircraft Mechanic, Flight Engineer, Aircraft Examiner and in the Planing and Evaluation department.  He retired after serving 35 years of Civil Service.

Jack was a kind and compassionate person who was dedicated to his family and friends.  His primary hobby was riding motorcycles, both on road and off road and daily walks to the San Francisco bay and Coyote Hills Regional park.

Jack is survived by his two sons; Bill Miles and wife Melanie Miles, Dale Miles and wife Pam Miles.  Eleven Grand children and eight Great Grand children; Brothers: Mike Miles and Larry Miles; Sisters, Marilyn Kelsey and Shirley Deen.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Holy Sepulcure Cemetery (St. Rafael Chapel) 1051 Harder Rd, Hayward CA, Saturday September 17th at 10am followed by a walking procession to the grave site for Internment.  No need to RSVP, our family would love to see you there.
