Josephine Weber, or “Mom” as she was known to all her children’s friends, passed away at the age of 97 on August 20, 2022, at her home in Hayward, California.
She was born Josephine Rita Giamona on May 8, 1925, in Monterey, California, to Paolo and Francesca Giamona. Josephine was the youngest of eight children and was doted on by her parents and older siblings.
Prior to meeting her future husband at a USO dance in November of 1952, Josephine worked in the banking industry. Knowing almost immediately that they were meant to be together, Josephine married Carroll Weber at San Carlos Cathedral in Monterey on January 24, 1953. Josephine and Carroll began married life in the Philippines, where Carroll was stationed during his enlistment with the U.S. Army. By 1959, Josephine and Carroll found their home in Hayward, where they would stay throughout their lives. They were active members of St. Bede Catholic Church, where they served together as Eucharistic ministers. They were married 66 wonderful years and, second to God, were each other’s everything. Together they were blessed with six children: Paul, Mary, Joe (Sheila), John(Michelle), Tom (Angie) and Annie (Clay). Josephine was a devoted mother who loved her children fiercely.
Josephine enjoyed spending time with her family and hosted many holidays and get-togethers over the years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, sisters, and in-laws.
Josephine left behind a legacy of love, family and hospitality. She was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Josephine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carroll; her parents; siblings; many in-laws, including a son-in-law and daughter-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Josephine is survived by her six children and children-in-law, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a vigil on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, beginning at 5pm at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Funeral Center, 1051 Harder Rd, Hayward, CA. Following visitation, there will be a Rosary service. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bede Catholic Church, 26950 Patrick Ave., Hayward, California.
