Leonardo “Andy” Suan

Leonardo "Andy" Suan passed away at his Hayward home at the age of 91 on Monday, January 16, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.  A native of Hawaii, he moved to California in his late teens. Known as “Andy” in the mainland, and “Leo” in Hawaii. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Consuelo “Connie” Suan; his children, Lori Christensen (John Sarullo), James Suan (Ana) and Glenn Suan; his grandchildren, Jacob Christensen, T.J. Christensen (Justine), Elizabeth Gooch (Marc), Samantha Maqdoor (Ajmal), David Suan (Jiena) and Kaylie Suan; great-grandchildren, Ariana Christensen, Nya Christensen Veloso (Jonathan), Ciara Christensen, Isaiah Gooch, Julian Christensen, Elijah Christensen, Emmie Christensen, and Mila Maqdoor; and great-great grandchild, Jeremiah Veloso.  Survived by his siblings Eugenio “Henio” Pedro (Helen), Alfred Pedro (Kay) and Joseph Pedro (Edna) all of Hawaii. Preceded in death by his parents, Carlos Suan and Baleriana Suan Pedro; brothers, Primo Suan and Casiano “Pete” Pedro, and sisters, Juliana Coleon and Silveria Lucero. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.  

Andy served as a sergeant in the United States Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War in Panama where he trained in reconnaissance. In his early years he worked as a farmhand in Sunol and Salinas and eventually retired as a sheet metal welder at A.R. Petersen and Sons.  His many hobbies included bowling, fishing, and playing Nintendo games.  He enjoyed watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their many activities.  And loved dancing with Nanay and going on family vacations to Hawaii, Lake Tahoe, Reno, as well as going on camping trips, beach trips, and cruises. One of his favorite past times was playing the ukulele. He was family-oriented and loved when his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren visited.

Visiting hours will be on Monday, February 6, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with a vigil at 6:00 p.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and Funeral Center, 1051 Harder Road, Hayward, CA 94542. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joachim Catholic Church, 21250 Hesperian Blvd., Hayward, CA 94541.
