Manuel J. Escovedo of Hayward, CA. departed his loving family on April 02, 2024. He was 94
years old,
Manuel J. Escovedo lived a life filled with love, family, and dedication. Born on December 30,
1929, to the late Pedro Escovedo and Anita Valenzuela Escovedo, he was one of 13 children
and grew up in Pittsburg and Oakland California. He attended McClymonds High School where
he discovered his passion for sports playing basketball and football, and went on to graduate in
1948.
Manuel then joined the United States Army Air Forces where he found his calling in boxing and
became part of the boxing team. After being Honorably Discharged, he continued to box and
won a Silver Glove Award and continued to pursue his love for boxing.
Manuels life journey was filled with hard work, determination, and a commitment to his family.
He worked various jobs before finding his true calling as a Glazier and proud member of the
Glaziers Union Local 169. He eventually achieved his dream of owning his own business and
was a dedicated provider for his family. On June 10, 1951 Manuel married his high school
sweetheart Virginia Quesada. Manuel was a devoted husband and father, he and his wife
Virginia raised five children together.
Manuel’s legacy continues to inspire those who knew him. He was a kind and caring man who
loved nothing more than spending time with his family and friends. He coached Little League
Baseball and attended church regularly at St Bede’s Catholic Church. Manuel was an avid
sports fan and a proud supporter of the three Oakland professional teams, especially the
Oakland Raiders.
Manuel is survived by four of his five children, Manuel Escovedo (the late Coleen Escovedo),
Sandra Escovedo Tardiff (Ronald Tardiff), Christine Escovedo (Joseph Luque) and Raymond
Escovedo (Faye Sequeira Escovedo). He joins his late wife Virginia Escovedo
and his late son Michael Escovedo. He was a proud and loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren
and 10 great grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
