Martha Joyce Seymour

Martha Seymour passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023 in Petaluma, CA at the age of 90. Martha was one of seven children born in Granton, Wisconsin, to Croatian immigrant parents Tom and Mary Paun. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Robert (Bob) Seymour, and five siblings Helen Nelson, Frank Paun, Mary Jane Cassell, Joe Paun and John Paun. Martha is survived by her brother Tom Paun and her children Kim, Dennis and Kathie Seymour; daughter-in-law Jennifer Dunlap; grandchildren Daniel Boyd, Gwen Seymour, Grace Seymour, Michael Sindicic and Marlana Sindicic; great-grandchildren Sophia Boyd, Noah Sindicic and Lily Sindicic.

Martha was a schoolteacher and began her career in a one-room schoolhouse in Wisconsin until moving to California in 1955. She spent over 30 years as a beloved third grade teacher at Verde Elementary School in Richmond, CA where some of her earlier students became the parents of students later in her career. After retiring from teaching in 1991, Martha had a second career as a tax preparer for H&R Block in Pinole, CA until retiring again in 2019.

Martha married Bob Seymour in June 1956 and started a family in 1959. They took many car camping trips over the years, visiting relatives in Wisconsin and national parks throughout the U.S. Martha was an avid cribbage player and a fan of SF Giants baseball and 49er football. Martha volunteered with the Richmond Radio Alert and Richmond's Office of Emergency Services. She was a member of the California Teachers Association and the 50 Plus Club at St David's church in Richmond, CA.

Martha had a big heart and filled her family's and friends’ lives with love. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was never happier than spending time with them. Martha was a wonderful mother who was always there for her kids and grandkids. She touched many lives with her love and kindness and was known, on a moment's notice, to be there to help friends or relatives. Martha will be deeply missed by so many, and her memory will live in the hearts of all who loved her.

Friends are invited to say goodbye to Martha at St Joseph's Funeral Home in San Pablo, CA, on November 8. Visiting starts at 10 am and a funeral mass at 12:00 pm.
