Miguel Ortiz, 93, of Bay Point, California, passed away peacefully on July 22nd, 2022. Miguel was born September 7th, 1928, in Pittsburg, CA, to Ponciano and Jesusita Ortiz. While born here in California, Miguel was raised in Purépero Michoacán, Mexico. At the age of 16 he returned to the Bay Area, where he worked hard in the fields of Brentwood and did carpentry. Along the way he met his beautiful wife, Maria Concepcion Vizcarra in Purépero. They were happily married for 61 years until she predeceased him in 2015. He is survived by his son Miguel Angel Ortiz and daughters: Rosa Maria Gutierrez and Martha Eva Fernandez. He has two son-in-laws: Isidoro and Victor, and one daughter-in-law: Gloria. He has left eight amazing grandchildren: Juan Carlos, Colette, Angela, Jessica, Veronica, Ana, Michael, and Victor. Along with six beautiful great-grandchildren: Alysa, Giovanni, Madden, Maliah, Mason, and Mack. Miguel was known for his hard work and dedication to his family, and best known as a protector and nicknamed the “godfather” to his parents, sister, and brothers. His perseverance to continue to give all he could to his family showed with his hard work ethic, as he dedicated 40 years of service at USS-Posco Industries in Pittsburg, CA. While a strong and silent man at times, many memories of him will include yearly visits to his second home in Purépero, Michoacán, playing dominoes with his grandchildren on the porch, driving his family around in his classic 1979 Lincoln Continental, and flashing his wonderful smile under his staple aviator sunglasses. He was a great storyteller, enjoyed classic Spanish movies, watching the Marimba on TV, and attended weekly mass in devotion to his Catholic faith. He had many friends in the community, both here and in Mexico, and will be remembered as a great man by those whose lives he touched. Visitation will begin at 5 PM with a vigil at 7 PM and will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery & Funeral Center, 2200 E 18th Street, Antioch on Thursday August 18th, 2022. Funeral liturgy will be on Friday August 19th, 2022 at 11am, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Brentwood. Committal services will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
