Patricia Ann Campbell

Patricia (Pat) Ann Campbell, resident of Danville, passed away at home in the loving care of family on January 28, 2024. She touched many lives with her infectious smile and kind nature. Pat was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 30, 1936, to Lawrence and Louise (Goupil) Shaughnessy. She is survived by two siblings Sharon Kosco and Michael Shaughnessy; her children Cari Ann Campbell and partner Caroline FitzGerald, Christopher (Chris) John Campbell and wife Amy (Elsen) Campbell; and grandchildren of Chris and Amy: Emma, Lauren, and Jack Campbell. Pat is predeceased by her husband Barry John Campbell (December 6, 1933- December 18, 2020). As a child, Pat’s family lived in Kansas City, MO; Manhattan Beach, CA; and Detroit, MI. Pat graduated from St. Gregory High School (1954) and Marygrove College (1958). She went on to earn a certificate in Speech and Language Pathology from Wayne State University and a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan. Pat worked as a Speech & Language Therapist in hospitals, clinics, and public schools her entire career. She had a special knack for helping children with stuttering challenges. Pat met her husband Barry Campbell in 1966 at a charity event at the Ambassador East Hotel in Chicago, IL. They married and had their firstborn Cari before moving to Southern California in 1970. Two years later their second child Chris was born. Pat and Barry moved to Danville, CA in 1978 and spent the remainder of their days living, working, and volunteering in the community. Pat retired as a Speech and Language Therapist from San Ramon Valley School District in 2001. She spent her retirement attending local exercise programs, working with the AAUW San Ramon Branch on the scholarship committee, and being part of the St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. Family members often asked Pat to pray for them as she seemed to have a special spiritual connection- many of their hopes and dreams came true! She and Barry regularly attended the Early Timer’s retiree monthly get-togethers. Pat was grateful for the wonderful neighbors and friends she and Barry enjoyed over the last 50+ years. Pat loved socializing with her “Out to Lunch Bunch”, a group of friends who enjoyed dining out in good company. Pat and Barry also found pleasure in traveling to visit their children. They regularly visited Chris, Amy, and the grandchildren in Minnesota and were delighted to go overseas to visit Cari and Caroline in London, UK; Paris, France; and Wellington, New Zealand. All who knew Pat appreciated her keen wit and sense of humor. In recent years she deemed the home in Danville, CA “Senior Oasis” with corresponding jokes about the pleasant ambiance, support services provided by the younger Campbell generations, and a new title for the family pet- Sebastian, Therapy Cat. Pat will be laid to rest alongside her late husband Barry J Campbell at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Lafayette, CA following a Memorial Service at the cemetery chapel on Friday, March 15th, 2024 at 11am. The family will host a celebration of life at the Sycamore Valley Clubhouse on Sunday, March 17th, 2024 at 2pm. Instead of flowers and gifts, the family suggests donating to one or both of Pat's beloved organizations: AAUW San Ramon, and/or Friends of the Danville Library. Donation instructions available on each organization's respective website.
