Our dear sister, aunt and great aunt, Patricia Eileen Fisher, passed away peacefully in
Concord, California on February 15, 2024, after a brief illness.
Patricia Eileen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1944. At the time, her father was
serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the family
was reunited, they lived in Pennsylvania, Florida and New York.
Patsy, to her family, joined the Order of Sisters of St. Dominic, Amityville, New York shortly
after graduating high school from St. Agnes Academic in College Point, New York. She
taught in numerous Catholic schools in the Long Island area of New York. She is a
graduate of Molloy University in Rockville Center, New York.
In 1982, she along with other sisters formed a non-profit called Neighbors Together which
served the local Brownsville section of Brooklyn with a soup kitchen, food pantry and
center of literacy where she taught English as a second language and GED classes. Today,
this non-profit continues to provide many services to residents in the area.
In 1986, she rejoined the secular life as a high school teacher in a local public school. In
1992, she moved to California to be closer to her immediate family and began working in
the financial brokerage industry. She worked at Portsmouth Financial Services from 1999
until retirement. She recently worked part-time for Portsmouth Financial up until her
passing.
In 1997, she joined the Martinez Chapter of the non-profit, Soroptimists International. She
was an active member of the club up until her passing having served in many roles within
Soroptimist International including President of the Martinez Chapter for five terms,
District II Director and Founder Region Secretary. At her passing she was Vice President of
the Martinez Chapter of Soroptimists.
Through Soroptimist International, she was dedicated to helping young women achieve
their dreams. One of the programs supported by local Soroptimist Chapters that she was
committed to is the Get Real Academy, a one-day life skills workshop for 11-12th grade girls
who attend schools in East and Central Contra Costs County. She served as Chair of this
event in 2015 and 2016.
Known for her tireless work for good causes, she was also a great friend of many, an
inspiration to many and had a great sense of humor which will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her sister, Dolores Glass, her nephews and was godmother to Geoffrey Glass and Matthew
Glass , her niece by marriage, Jeanne Glass and her adored grand-nieces Gillian and Juliet
Glass. She is predeceased by her father and mother, James Fisher and Mary Whyte. She is
also greatly missed by her beloved dog, Mr. Bojangles.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, March 8th at 10:00 am at Queen of All Saints Catholic
Church followed by a reception in the Church Hall. Donations can be made to Soroptimist
