Iona Elizabeth Singh

Iona Elizabeth (Rumble) Singh passed away on March 20, 2020 at the age of 92. She was a resident of Flint, MI for over 50 years, and the beloved wife of the late Dr. Sarjit Singh, MD. Iona was born in Ogdensburg, NY on August 22, 1927, the daughter of Jack and Evelyn (Gagnon) Rumble. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, and then the A. Barton Hepburn School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse. She was proud of being the on-site nurse at many large construction sites, including the Niagara Power Project, and at General Motors’ Oldsmobile plant. She married Dr. Singh in 1965 and settled in Flint shortly thereafter. She was an active member of the Genesee County Medical Auxiliary and a parishioner at St. Pius X Catholic Church. She supported many causes and was especially proud of being a benefactor to the Kroc Institute of International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame. She loved boating on the Great Lakes and cheering on the racehorses she owned. Most of all, she gave her endless and unwavering love and support to her family. Iona is survived by her son, Raja (Rebecca) Singh, grandchildren Madeleine and Tyler, and siblings Anita Kennedy, George Rumble and Agnes (Harry) Haskins. She is preceded in death by her husband, her sister Phyllis Ritchie and her brothers Ben Rumble and Mark Rumble. Iona died peacefully in Walnut Creek, CA with her son at her side. A private memorial service will be held on April 17, 2020. She will be buried at Notre Dame Cemetery in Ogdensburg later this summer. The Singh family wishes to thank Jeri Ramos and family for always including Onie in your family. Further, our gratitude to Terry Binkley and The Caregiver Professionals for all your care and assistance these past years.
