Roger W. Cunha

Roger W. Cunha, life-long resident of Fremont, passed away at the age of 75 on Dec. 17, 2020. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dolores M. Cunha, his four children Teresa Louwerens, Stephanie Haines, Anna Valverde, Matthew Cunha, 5 grandchildren, and his older brother, Ronald Cunha, of Sonora, CA.

Roger was born in Fremont, and was the youngest of three sons born to Raymond W. Cunha, and Anna Maria (Soares). His older brother, Larry, preceded him in death in 1995.

He was in the 2nd graduating class of Irvington HS in ’63. He served in the Army National Guard, and then began working for the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Dept. in ’68, and proudly served as a Deputy Sheriff until 2015.

Roger married his wife, Dolores, in 1971 and lived in Fremont where they raised their four children. In his retirement, Roger spent time doing re-enactments with the American Civil War Assoc. He was an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed long rides with his brother, Ron, and even rode his motorcycle cross country. He loved his Bay Area sports teams, camping, water skiing, family RV trips, and working in his garden. More than anything, Dad loved spending time with his family. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

After a private family viewing on December 28th at 11:00 AM at Sorensen Chapel, 1140 B St, Hayward, Roger will be interred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 26320 Mission Blvd, Hayward 94544 at 1:00 PM.
