Shonya Lyn Fernando Swedberg

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shonya Lyn Fernando Swedberg. Born in Hawaii to Ofelia Ribao Fernando and Felix Fernando on January 21, 1969. She moved to Hayward, California in 1980. She created cherished memories with family and friends. Her generosity and vibrant spirit made her beloved by all who knew her.

Shonya’s joyful presence brought so much laughter to those around her. She was adored by her husband, mother, brother, nieces, nephews, and large extended family of cousins. Shonya’s compassion, inner and outer beauty have left a mark on everyone she has encountered

After graduating high school in 1987 from Moreau Catholic High School, she began working for Wells Fargo bank where she was a teller. She continued her journey with Wells Fargo but this time working for corporate, in both San Francisco and Los Angeles. Later, she started a job working at Golden State Flooring, it was there that she met her soulmate, Derek. They shared a beautiful life full of love, travel, and many other shared passions.

An avid supporter of all bay area sports teams, Shonya was especially passionate about the San Francisco 49ers. She eagerly traveled each year to cheer them on. Her excitement and enjoyment were infectious to all those around her. Her love for adventure extended beyond sports; Shonya enjoyed traveling and even took multiple cruises with friends and family to Europe. It was in Scotland this past summer, where she found her love of highland cows.

Shonya’s love for life, her loyalty to loved ones, and her beautiful smile will be greatly missed. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all of those who knew and loved her.

Shonya leaves behind her loving husband Derek along with her bonus children; Justin Swedberg, Jamie Murray (AJ), and Julie Swedberg. She is also survived by her mother Ofelia, brother Erik, her niece Alexis, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, and cousins (whom she would often refer to as brother and sister).
